The “Bring One for the Chipper” Campaign is taking place all across Atlanta. If you haven’t heard, “Bring One for the Chipper” is a Christmas tree recycling program in Atlanta. The 2011 event celebrates 20 years of “treecycling” in the state of Georgia. This is a great opportunity for families in North Metro Atlanta area to recycle within their communities at local drop-offs.
Gwinnett County:
In Gwinnett County, the annual tradition of Christmas tree recycling began in 1984. For the past seven years, Gwinnett has lead the state in recycling more trees than any other county. 50,000 trees were recycled last year by Gwinnett County residents.
Gwinnett County homeowners and residents are encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees. Not only are they helping the community by recycling, but they are also helping the environment by the trees being turned into mulch. The mulch will be used in Gwinnett County parks and other county locations.
Trees can be dropped off at any of the 30 local drop-off locations until January 15th. For a complete list of the drop-off locations in Gwinnett County, visit the Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful website at www.gwinnettcb.org.
Gwinnett County’s “Bring One for the Chipper” event is scheduled for January 22nd from 9am till noon at Bethesda Park in Lawrenceville. Volunteers will meet at the park and chip the trees into mulch. If you would like to volunteer call 770-822-5817 or visit the Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful website. This is a great opportunity for you and your teens to volunteer (all participants must be at least 12 years old).
